Throughout Mexico’s history, women have played a crucial role in various social, artistic, and cultural movements, transforming their society. Here are five women who changed history:

1.Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz: Sor Juana was one of the first women in Mexico to achieve a high level of education. Despite living over three centuries ago, her legacy endures. She defended women’s role in Novohispanic society through her writings and poems, leaving a legacy that remains alive today.

2. Frida Kahlo: With her unique style, Frida stood out in the art world in an era dominated by men. Her art, which reflected her reality after a serious accident, made her an iconic figure of surrealism, whose legacy is still admired worldwide.

3 & 4. Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez and Leona Vicario: These two women were key figures in the fight for Mexico’s independence. Their participation was fundamental for the country’s development in the years following independence. Leona Vicario promoted revolutionary ideas through newspapers, while Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez warned Miguel Hidalgo about conspiracies against him.

  1. La Malinche: La Malinche’s story has been distorted over time, even being blamed for the conquest of Mexico. However, her role as an interpreter between Spaniards and indigenous people was crucial in Mexico’s history. Her contribution was so significant that, according to some historians, the course of history would have been very different without her.

These women are inspiring examples of the impact women have had on Mexico’s history and the world. Their legacy lives on and continues to inspire future generations.
