NATIONAL REGISTRY OF FOREIGNERS
The following process is for foreign individuals who entered Mexico between January 2015 and December 2021 and have expired tourist stays or expired temporary resident cards.
For individuals who entered Mexico for the first time in 2022 and have expired tourist stays or temporary resident status, they will be granted a 1-year residency, after which they will have to renew for an additional 3 years, and then the following year apply for permanent residency.
Fines for irregularities will be determined by the INM (National Institute of Migration) depending on how long the foreigner has been in the country irregularly.
Once residents in Mexico, they will be assigned a CURP Code (Unique Population Registry Code) to individually register all individuals residing in Mexico, both nationals and foreigners.
